Invocation I 00:42
Menin aeide thea (translated “Sing goddess of rage” first line of the Illiad by Homer)

God Bite 02:45
Statue in the backyard He's got his head in his hands I'm looking down through the bars And I don't feel so trapped Something happened that day Broke the stone rolled it away He bit me and my eyes opened Only you make me Only you make me Only death can make me Live my life like any moment God could bite my hand God could bite my hand I am not myself I am not myself anymore I am not myself but I never was before Something happened that day Wounded dog ram in my way I reached out my hand to help him Only you make me Only you make me Only death can make me Live my life like any moment God could bite my hand

Thunderhead 03:46
Clouds in his lungs growing blacker by the second Hovering above with the face of a thunderhead Some say it's love if it teaches you a lesson Takes a little power for respect to surface Down the lightning thrown by his hands Down the lightning someone deliver us Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide Only place to stand is in the path Of the Thunderhead I wasn't there when you conjured up the heavens I wasn't there when you gave the dirt a name Now you sharpen up your blade and take aim upon your children Is this why you made us to have someone else to blame? Down the lightning thrown by his hands Down the lightning someone deliver us Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide Only place to stand is in the path Of the Thunderhead

Look Alive 03:33
I climbed out of my window Tip tied down the roof Jumped and rolled onto the ground Ram down the avenue My head on a swivel My hoodie zipped tight At the corner of the block there's a watchful street light Look Alive Look Alive Look Alive Look Alive Look Alive Look Alive Well I've tried to trace your anger From the welts on my back To the belt of your father Did he buckle you up bad? As I run by these houses With their kitchen lights on Do they hide the same rage? Do they hold back their song? Look Alive Look Alive Look Alive Look Alive Look Alive Look Alive I'm not sticking round to find out I'm in the darkness on the edge of town I'm going down down down I'm going down down down To the river Dip me in the water Hold me by the heel Thetis my mother Make me a shield Dip me in the water Hold me by the heel Thetis my mother Make me a shield I climbed back in my window Black turned to blue The birds started chatting The grass got it's dew As I drifted off the sleep I called out to you Carry me water Away or through

Underneath the overhang damp keeping dry People that sway with a glaze in the eyes Falling on the nod with a needle to the fade Hangin in the wind like a beetle on a blade Stone in a field boulder in a glade Open bottle country road a hundred miles away from here Grass overgrown broken window shade Hangin in the wind like a beetle on a blade Moon is younger than the sun Out at night and filling up Time not wasted on the young Under lights and over cups Sooner later Sooner later why? Either way Im gonna be just fine More than fine Than fine Bottom of the bottom or the top of the pops Everybody fighting while the world around them falls apart We don't want a dirge we don't want a serenade We just wanna be like a beetle on a blade Moon is younger than the sun Out at night and filling up Time not wasted on the young Under lights and over cups Sooner later sooner later why? Either way Im gonna be just fine More than fine Than fine Stone in a field Beetle on a blade Stone in a field Beetle on a blade

My dreams They used to be vagabonds They've been feeling like tagalongs lately And time I don't wanna waste my time lightly Oh I would love to come over but Time has other plans Time has other plans Oh I would love to come over but Time has other plans Time has other plans You're an open book You're an open book But a fiction though Spreading fucking lies To everyone You're just like a snake That has shed it's skin Only to become More deadly Oh I would love to come over but Time has other plans Oh I would love to come over but Time has other plans Time has other plans You have got a throat Like an open grave Rumors crawling out Like zombies Don't you realize That they hurt us all That they chase us all Now we're running Oh I would love to come over but Time has other plans Oh I would love to come over but Time has other plans Time has other plans You're an open book You're an open grave Now I know Time has other plans You're an open book You're an open grave Now I know Time has other plans Oh I would love to come over but Time has other plans Oh I would love to come over but Time has other plans Time has other plans

I think I heard you in a valley of fire Side of a mountain with the face of a choir I'd like you to sing I'd like you to bring out the full moon for me Sing me the oldest song Of the long decline Went for a walk inside a canyon we found Into the desert til it washed out And there at the end We could see that big reservoir beneath Watching the bath tub drain To the water line I think I heard you in a valley of fire Side of a mountain with the face of a choir Red rock and black Shadows and gaps the hot winds carving out Sing me the sweetest song Sing me the sweetest song Of the long decline

Achilleos Peleiadeo (translated “Achilles son of Peleus”, first line of the Illiad by Homer)

Down on the ground flowers for you Stone to stone, tell me what to do How to love you Piece it together, pendulum moods She thinks you had same thing I do How to love you If I could change more slowly Between lightning and lowly I'd know much better how to love you If I could change more slowly Between lightning and lowly I'd know much better how to love you Know much better how to love you Why do I ask you can't answer It's all for me everything I do How to love you If I could change more slowly From lightning down to lowly I'd know much better how to love you If I could change more slowly From lightning down to lowly I'd know much better how to love you Know much better how to love you If this is the last hour of my life I can forgive you, and say that I knew How to love you How to love you How to love you How to love you

Queen Gohma 03:38
I'll never be like you I'd never try To follow the cold old ways Fears built on lies I'll drink from the crystal fountain I'll have gold and golden rules I'll bring down fire from the mountain But I won't live inside your tomb Gonna live til I die Gonna live til I die I'm a little bit like you Dream in my eyes But the beams catching splinters there Make me worse for the wise How I want to be remembered How I see castles not their ruins And the greyest ocean calms me But I don't care for afternoons Gone live til I die Gonna live til I die I'm a lot like him He's first I'm ninth He lived through the worst of you And still turned out alright And he came back when he got older When you lost your job when mom did too And he taught us how to beat Queen Gohma And he won't speak no ill of you We're gonna live til we die We're gonna live til we die

Look back look up look down What I did what I do it all comes round My mouth can run and spin But I'm lookin out for myself, my family up until the end If I could change anything well I would not change anything Drop low in winter swing up in the spring Over and over I'd do it all over again Over and over again and again Trick you trick them trick em all so well When I play the fool I even trick myself I slip I trip and the best trick of all I don't put my hands down laughter breaks the fall If I could change anything well I would not change anything Drop low in winter swing up in the spring Over and over Id do it all over again Over and over again and again Of all the money that ere I had I have spent it in good company And for all the harm that ere I've done Alas it was to none but me

All Songs written by Paul Michael Raphael Spring except Track 12 “Fairy Fountain” which was written by Koji Kondo for The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.

Thanks to Sophia Heymans for her unending creativity and support. Thanks to Chloe Heymans for her medieval madness playlist. Thanks to Dan Lowery for those remote Irish Flute lessons. Thanks to Annie and Tim, Chloe and Carlo, Danny and Leah, Joseph Cochran, Chi Osse, Ajani Brooks, Ketia Jeune, Cooper Lund, Liana Sanders, Abigail Paulson, Russell Nygard, Elijah Wolf and Josh Montazeri for listening to the record in early stages and giving me thoughtful feedback. Thanks to all the folks who hosted us this past year as we drove around the country. These friends and family gave us warmth, shelter and art making space in between BLM campsites: Annie and Tim Heymans, Rosamond Spring and Arthur Spring, Margaret Spring and Chris Baker, Celeste Miles, Matthew and Julie Spring, Martha Heymans and Anthony Gustin, Campo Los Pulpos, Joe Harrison and Jackie Pete Zahut, Danny Vitali and Leah Fritts, and Frank and Jen Spring. Couldn’t have made this record without all of your Xenia and Generosity.
